Uncommon Grounds is a coffee roaster for Gourmet Coffees
located in Berkeley, CA. Since participating in the Smart
Lights Program, Uncommon Grounds has experienced better
lighting and working conditions. According to Orrel Lanter,
President of Uncommon Grounds, "Uncommon Grounds
roasts; packages, and ships Gourmet Coffees and all three
phases of our operation depend on adequate workplace lighting.
Smart Lights showed us how we could maintain, or even
increase, our existing lighting levels, while dramatically
reducing our electricity use and expense. Better lighting
at a lower cost … it's illuminating!!!"
“We
have experienced an unexpected advantage of participating
in the program too!” Kim Moore, the general manager
for Uncommon Grounds explains. “With improved
lighting quality now we can see true color of beans
that we are roasting. Now we can roast coffees to perfection!
Our customers also have ‘tasted’ the difference!”

air pollution that we have achieved through this initiative.”
