Program Funding
This
program is funded by California utility ratepayers under
the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
It is funded from July 1, 2006 through December, 2008.
Our goals are to assess the opportunities for energy
efficiency at 900 businesses and to assist 450 businesses
install new energy efficient lights.
The
Origins of the Smart Lights Program
The
Smart Lights Program was founded in 2001 by a grant
from the State to the City of Berkeley to help address
the California energy crisis. Unveiled in March of 2002,
Smart Lights started working with small businesses in
the East Bay(primarily Berkeley and Oakland) to help
them save energy. When the Program ended its first cycle
in December of 2003, we had worked with over 1,500 businesses,
900 of which chose to retrofit their lights.
